What this solves
NZ's craft beer scene exploded in the 2010s. There are now over 200 breweries, concentrated in a handful of regions. Wellington is the world record-holder for craft-beer density per capita. Nelson is famous for hop growing. Auckland has the most brewers but they're spread across the city. Christchurch has rebuilt its scene post-quake. Central Otago has small brewpubs.
This tool matches the region to your taste and tour style, then lists 2–3 breweries to anchor on (we do not list every one because that goes out of date fast).
How to read the result
- The score is a heuristic based on style, density, and tour style.
- Anchor breweries are large / iconic / regular visitor-friendly. Smaller breweries often close on quiet days.
Limitations
- Opening hours change — verify on each brewery's site.
- The "iconic" anchor list is selective; there are many more good brewers in each region.
